Chicago Cubs Cookbook: All-Star Recipes from Your Favorite Players ReviewThis is one of those cookbooks that has many recipe's but some of them good and some of them bad. For instance, Ted Lilly's recipe is called egg in the hole...basically just cut a hole in a piece of bread and put an egg in there and cook it. Definitely not gourmet quality. But its all in fun. There are some interesting and good recipes from some of the players and even restaurant quality recipes from places like Harry Carey's Bar and Grill. The main reason to buy this is for a gift for some big Cubs fans and to support a great cause. The proceeds go to a pitcher named Ryan Dempster for his daughters disease. Tru: A Cookbook from the Legendary Chicago Restaurant ReviewI just ate at Tru for the second time and it was as amazing as the first time - actually this has become my favorite restaurant in the world (sorry Thomas Keller). I was excited to see the Tru cookbook and hoped that, like the stellar French Laundry cookbook, I might be able to use it to cook some of my favorites from Tru. I have read through the entire cookbook a few times and as culinary reading it is wonderful. Sadly in the past few days I have tried three recipes and had three failures. I am an accomplished home chef, not professional by any means but I am a heck of a recipe follower and can usually make any recipe from any cookbook. Unfortunately here it seems that some detail is missing from the recipes or that they are badly written. I'm planning on using this book for inspiration (there's so much of it in here) but will not be following any recipes verbatim. I'd say this was a worthwhile addition to your kitchen library for the reading pleasure alone but be warned that the recipes may not have the results you expect.Tru: A Cookbook from the Legendary Chicago Restaurant Overview

This is one of the best and favorite cookbooks from a eating establishment out there. It is also one of the best Italian cookbooks I have used. The Chicken Marsala and Vesuvio are just out of this world. All of the favorites can be found within mixed with a little history and some 4 color photos intermixed but most photos are black and white. You will wear this book out. The Chicago Homegrown Cookbook: Local Food, Local Restaurants, Local Recipes (Homegrown Cookbooks) ReviewThis review is for the Kindle version, only. That is the Sample that I downloaded. I live, work, play and eat in Chicago, but also the bountiful area of Berrien County, Michigan. I saw a Noontime Food Special on this book and promptly downloaded the free sample. Fifteen minutes later, I deleted it. Why? I'm a huge advocate of local Farmer's Markets, growing your own, and seasonal foods...but CRAB MEAT?!? 15-30 MOREL MUSHROOMS @ $35.00/pound???? REALLY??? Those are just the first two recipes in the free sample, and I knew the book wasn't for me, financially. You can make amazing and cost effective meals by shopping seasonally and growing your own but that implies NORMAL and INEXPENSIVE ingredients. Morels grow wild in my perennial bed but we only harvest about 30, total, and I'm not wasting them on one single recipe. And since Chicago is a Fresh Water city, NOT a coastal city, why not have a recipe featuring salmon, or trout, or even catfish, in the sample? The remainder of the book may have less costly ingredients and I apologize if it does, but both the high cost of suggested ingredients and high time preparation nixed this download for me. The stories are nice but I'm paying for recipes that feed a family of five, not words.

The Chicago Diner Cookbook ReviewAs an old Chicago Diner fan, I could not wait for this book to come out. Since I purchased it, have been using it for so many dishes at home.. Everything is so healthy and easy to make. Try the tofu cheesecake, cream soups (made with soy milk), Ex-Benedict, Tofu roll, Chocolate mousse. Even my kids approve of the dishes. They still have not figured out that they are eating tofu. Jo Kaucher translated most of the comfort foods you remember from your childhood into healthy vegan recipes -- that taste great!
