Some of the scenes in the book are familar to me, and that also adds to the book's appeal. This book shows both the machines and the people affiliated with the railraod. The book describes the rich history of the Chicago and Alton Railroad. I love the photos of the Alton Limited, Abraham Lincoln and Ann Rutledge passenger trains. There is even a photo of Abraham Lincoln when he lived in Springfield, Illinois. The Chicago and Alton Railroad was the shortest route between Chicago Union Station and St. Louis Union Station. Today this route is used by Amtrak and Union Pacific.

Chicago Stations & Trains Photo Archive ReviewThis beautifully illustrated and informative volume on the six historic passenger rail stations in Chicago is a treasure. TRAINS magazine had a feature on Chicago back in 2003, with shorts items on those stations, but this volume provides much more visual detail. My only complaint is that the photos are all B&W.
