A Mile Square of Chicago ReviewOnce you start this easily read book it is hard to put it donwn. It is a fascinating historical social study of a neighborhood in Chicago that was the nucleous of a great city on the move between 1850 and 1920. The research that went into its writing is remarkable and well thought out. I lived in Chicgo mosst of my life and am aware of Chicago History, its neighborhood and all of it came together in this book. One doesn't have to have lived in Chicago to get some idea of what life was like. The pictures throughout complement the text.Who, but the author, would take the time to describe the early bathrooms and how they were remodeled. Unique is transposing the old addresses and landmarks to the new addresses when the city renumbered addresses throughout the city.
I thorougly enjoyed the book and you will too.A Mile Square of Chicago Overview
