My great gradfather, Lt. Martin Quinn, on my mother's side is mentioned several times in the book. He was a particapant of the Chicago Police command in charge of breaking up the Hay Market Rioter's. Two of his 25 company men under his command were killed during the violence and several others were wounded. My family is proud to be a part of Chicago's police history. Both of my grandfather's were also members of the Chicago Police. This book was written in 1887 to give the police department some positive public relations views after the 1886 riots.
