Murder and Mayhem on Chicago's South Side (IL) (Murder & Mayhem) ReviewLike other sections of Chicago the city has been cursed with a number of unsavory characters that have added to its often infamous history. This book has Al Capone's Murder Twins, John Scalise and Albert Anselmi, gracing the cover. A rather lengthy version on the rise and fall of Al Capone is included here. In addition you will read about The Murder Castle built by Herman Mudget, aka H.H. Holmes, to accommodate visitors to the Chicago Worlds' Fair of 1893. Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb are included as well for their "thrill" murder of fourteen-year-old Bobby Franks, as is the mysterious death of Marshall Field Jr. The book concludes with aimless drifter Richard Speck and the murders he committed in July of 1966 of eight student nurses. That is the one case I remember very well. There are a few additional cases mentioned, but the ones I have noted are the ones that I am familiar with.There's more to history than wars, treaties, and presidents, and all five books in this series are worthwhile additions to your crime library.
