The Talmud of the Land of Israel, Volume 28: Baba Qamma (Chicago Studies in the History of Judaism) ReviewThis is a very useful book for those of us who believe in both Judiasm and Christianity and are trying to practice both. It contains English translations of some fundamental parts of the Hebrew text of the Jewish Talmud. And, it is presented without hundreds of pages additional verbage and a plethora of confusing comments that refere back to each other (I hope there are other amateur theologians who don't want the divine light of our Torah hidden under a huge bushel of additional discussions. According to the New Testament there is a least one up there on a great white throne in heaven). Of course, the Mishnah section corresponding to this is an even more condensed. But, I think the Gemara of the Talmud is very enlightening by itself. So, thank goodness for Dr. Neusner and his students from the University of Chicago Divinity school which supports him financially in this work. The book also contains a useful set of cross-references to the verses in the book Exodus that this part of the Talmud is referring to. Non-injury, non-stealing: these are commandments in general for all of humankind (according to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and also the Ten Commandments in the Bible). The Mishnah, the Talmud is a treasure house of knowledge about the details and the logic of how to do this. The Talmud of the Land of Israel, Volume 28: Baba Qamma (Chicago Studies in the History of Judaism) Overview
